We posted findings earlier from the covid-19 business tracker that showed businesses reporting using more digital technology in their businesses use.
The increase in the use of digital payments such as mobile money has us wondering about financial inclusion and the proportion of the population that has access to mobile money.
We look at statistics in the 2017/2018 Ghana Living Standards Survey Report and find that mobile money account ownership is quite low with 30% of respondents over 12 years reporting they owned a mobile money account. This is compared to 64% of respondents reporting that they owned a mobile phone and 74% reporting that they used mobile phones. That means that less than half of the people of the people that own mobile phones have a mobile money account.
